U.S. Buyer FAQ — Importing & Delivery
How does importing a trailer from Canada into the United States actually work?
We coordinate the process with licensed brokers to ensure your trailer is properly cleared into the U.S. You’ll receive the required documentation for registration in your state, once it’s all completed.
Do I need to hire my own customs broker?
No, not unless you have your own broker contact. Otherwise, we can coordinate the broker relationship with you. If you pick up your trailer in person, you can work with a broker of your choice. If your trailer is being shipped, we will coordinate with our broker in advance.
What import fees or tariffs should I expect?
U.S. buyers should expect brokerage and U.S. import related tariffs. The cost of which defers between pick up or shipping your trailer. Please contact us directly, and we can explain the differences and the pros and cons
What documents will I receive to register the trailer?
You’ll receive a Bill of Sale, final invoice, Manufacturer’s Certificate of Origin (MCO), and U.S. customs importation documents.
What is an MCO and why do I need it?
The Manufacturer’s Certificate of Origin acts as the trailer’s title before registration. Your DMV will require it to issue your trailer license plate.
Do I need insurance before pickup or delivery?
We strongly recommend arranging insurance before taking possession of your trailer. Requirements vary by provider and state.
What happens at the border if I pick up in person?
The broker will submit a pre-clearance to U.S. Customs for the importation of the trailer. At the border, you will present your documents, and a customs agent will come and inspect the trailer. After that, entry into the U.S.A. will be complete.
Does my trailer need to be registered before picking up?
Most States will not allow you to register your trailer, until it has been cleared by U.S. Customs and entered into the United States. Some States will issue you a “temporary tag”. Otherwise, generally, you have 30 days after purchase date to register a new travel trailer.
